Applebutter 2011

For as long as I've known this family they've made applebutter every fall. As the kids are growing it becomes more important because we hope they will one day pick up this tradition. We use the "original recipe" (not to be confused with chicken), which was developed by Jeff's ancestors long ago. We use a copper kettle over a burner my father-in-law Dean had made a few years back. This is so much easier than trying to keep a fire going strong, plus we can make applebutter in the shed, which makes it a bit more comfortable. The kids always have a grand time playing, and most of the pics are of them or Jeff stirring. The two pictures of me were taken by Leila and Brayden! This year 5 bushels of apples yielded 53.5 quarts of applebutter. It looks great, can't wait to dig in to a new jar!
